The Norfolk & Western (N&W) Class BP box cars were versatile service cars primarily used as boxcars, tool-bunks, and maintenance-of-way support units. One notable example, NW 526591, was built in 1925 by the Pullman Standard Car Manufacturing Company, conforming to AAR Type M274 specifications. Originally, this car carried the road numbers NW 120032 and NW 40268 before receiving its final designation.

Service History
NW 526591 underwent a conversion to maintenance-of-way service on May 28, 1954, at the Roanoke East End Car Shops. Over the following decades, it served at multiple locations, including Roanoke, VA, Elliston, WV, and Ripplemead, VA. The car remained in active service through the early 1980s before eventually being retired around 1986.

Following retirement, the car was donated to the Roanoke Central Valley Railroad (RCVX) in Salem, VA, in June 1988. Later, it was traded to the Roanoke Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) in 2003, where it remains.
