ALCO T6 #41

ALCO T6 #41

Alco T6 #41 is a historically significant locomotive, representing one of the final batches of diesel locomotives purchased by the Norfolk & Western Railway from the American Locomotive Company (Alco) in August 1951.

Part of the T6 series—the last class of diesel locomotives built by Alco—the T6 was a rugged and versatile diesel-electric switcher designed for both yard and light road freight service. It features a B-B wheel arrangement and is powered by an Alco 251B prime mover capable of producing 1,000 horsepower.

Originally delivered to the Norfolk & Western as #41, the locomotive was later sold to the Chesapeake & Western Railway, where it was renumbered #11. In December 1988, the Roanoke Chapter NRHS acquired the unit, preserving this important piece of N&W diesel heritage for future generations.
