After an absence of 12 years, Roanoke Chapter returned an Amtrak excursion train to Roanoke!
On the weekend of November 7 and 8, riders had the chance to ride the rails in our area once again. In cooperation with Amtrak and Norfolk Southern, we will operated two round-trip excursions. On Saturday, November 7, 2009 the excursion train departed the former N&W passenger station bound for Bluefield, West Virginia.
The Weekend Is Now History!
On Sunday, November 8, 2009, the train traveled north through the scenic and historic Shenandoah Valley, passing through Buchanan, Natural Bridge Station, Waynesboro and arrive 120 miles north of Roanoke in the town of Shenandoah.
Thanks to all those who purcharsed tickets and supported the fund raising effort. We hope we can offer this opportunity again.
For those interested, you can read the write up in the Roanoke Times or online here!
